One of my favorite end of the year activities is to choose my "word" for the following year.
In the past my words have been Faith, Simplify, Grateful, and this year Brave.
I like to choose a word that will be my guiding principle for the new year (kind of like the pillars in my business). Something that I can come back to when I am struggling for the right answer or the right decision.
Usually it takes me a while to contemplate a word, or wait for it to come to me, but this year it was loud and clear.
This is a repeat from a few years ago, but I feel like I need it now more than ever. The last time I chose this word I feel like I was able to make big changes and shifts in my life. I don't know about you, but I have a tendency to over complicate things. Too many things. Too many words. Too many processes. Too many systems. Don't get me wrong, I love and value a good system ... they are critical for your business, but sometimes we can make them so rigorous and so complicated that we get overwhelmed and stop all together.
I'm done with all that. (again)
So simplify it is. Typically when I choose a word I will purchase a couple little signs or things that display it in the places where I will see it most often (my desk, my bathroom, my nightstand), but this year, I'm not so sure. Adding one more thing doesn't feel very "simple" to me.
Get ready. I can feel already how "simplify" is going to help me to clear some of the clutter (not just the physical kind) and get to the heart of taking action on some big things, and I'm excited about that.
