A couple weeks ago I noticed that a sunflower is growing in my yard (thank you little birds for planting it!). It hasn't bloomed yet, but is getting close. I can see it clearly from my favorite chair and my porch, and love watching it grow. I've noticed that depending on the time of day the "head" of it seems to be "facing" different directions. I realized that it is deliberately facing towards the sun.
Isn't that lovely? For nourishment, in order to grow, the sunflower adjusts to take in the rays of the sunshine. What a great metaphor for so many things.
There is a lot of negativity in our world and in our business. Lots of industries make their living ... their riches ... by feeding our fear and our insecurities. If one look at a beauty magazine, the evening news or your local paper isn't proof of that I don't know what is.
What if, instead of facing the negativity, the hatred, the fear head on, we turn toward the light. Towards those who are making a positive difference in the world. Towards hope and possibilities and love.
If I've learned anything in this business (17 years and counting) and in life it's that taking action will cure anxiety. Turning towards the light is the best first step of action that you can take, no matter your circumstances.
Worried about your pipeline? Not enough business? Unsure what to do next? Take a step of action. Write a note. Call a client. Have coffee with a colleague. Turn towards the light.
Share with us a worry you are having today and one step of action, no matter how small, that you can take to move away from it and towards the light.
