My husband turns 40 today. He began his career in the fire service when he was 20, and in 10 more years he is eligible to retire, and talks about it regularly, counts down the days. Now his work is more physically and emotionally demanding than mine, but still, I can't imagine retiring.
I'm sure the time will come when I refer out more of my business than I handle myself, or even a time when I refer out all of my business, but I can't imagine when that will be. I do envision spending my later years somewhere that is warm year round, but I can't imagine ever not working.
We are on vacation this week, have been here since Friday morning and I'm not back in the office until next Wednesday. I'm enjoying a nice long break, which was well needed, and I have turned off my involvement in my business leaving it in very capable hands. As a result, I am feeling relaxed and refreshed and already feeling energized to get back to work and try new things. For the majority of my career I have had only a very few occasions when I have dreaded that first day back at work after vacation. I'm almost always excited and reinvigorated. I realize that this is a gift, and not everyone feels this way about their work. For me, I have learned that this feeling comes from being an entrepreneur and running my own business surrounded by people I love. I wouldn't have it any other way.
Do you have retirement plans from your real estate business? Do you return from vacations excited to get back to work or ready to leave again?
