When is the last time you shook your life? Did you do it on purpose or was it done for you?
My life was majorly shaken up last year following the passing of my mother. I was very comfortable ... yet I was also uncomfortable, and didn't really realize it. Numb may be a better word. Suddenly, everything was different, and what was "comfortable" was obviously no longer so.
So, like Amy describes, I held onto (or tried to hold onto) the clearly very best parts ... the gold ... and let the rest go in favor of new experiences, some freshness, a new chapter. The part that was let go wasn't bad, it had just served its purpose, run its course. What has emerged has been more wonderful than I could ever imagine. Harder, yes. Sometimes uncomfortable, definitely. Yet incredibly fulfilling, like all of the pieces of a puzzle have finally started to come together.
Next time an opportunity is staring you in the face, or when you find that you are too comfortable, or when an unwelcomed earthquake is wreaking havoc in your life ... Stop. Grab onto the gold. Say thank you, and let the rest go.
