I'm going to a local business networking group this evening. Way outside of my comfort zone. I'm going to have to make small talk. With people I don't know yet. When I'd rather be sitting in a corner at home with a book. What if they don't like me? What if I don't know what to say? What if I'm not able to clearly articulate what I do, why I do it, and that I'm good at it?
BUT ... What if I make new friends? What if they like me? What if I make some valuable new business connections? What if I have ... FUN?
I've found ... I'm rediscovering ... that in our business (and many others -- and life really), you need to just put yourself out there. Doing something new, something fresh, something that may even scare you a little can bring a new perspective, new ideas, can invigorate you.
Eleanor Roosevelt makes a great point. I don't think I can do it every day, but I can do it some days, and will do it today. What can you do today, or tomorrow, or next week, that scares you?
PS: Dinna Eckstein, please sit next to me tonight!
