Happy New Year! Do you have any special traditions for either New Year's Eve or New Year's Day? I've never been one to go out for New Year's Eve. In my 20s I was usually on ambulance duty at the firehouse, and since then I've always had little kids so we preferred a quiet night at home. As a young girl on New Year's Day we would have lunch (aka dinner, "dinner" was actually called supper) with my grandmother, eating black eyed peas and some sort of green (cabbage or collared greens) for good luck. Now, on New Year's Day we like to hang around the house, taking down the rest of the Christmas decorations. Last year my little family of 5 sat down and talked about our "goals" for the year. For the kids, it was really more about things they wanted to do this year, places they wanted to go (to a water park, Williamsburg, the beach, a Nationals game, etc). It was really fun to do, and we have referenced that list many times throughout the year. I'm looking forward to doing that again tomorrow. How about you? What are your New Year plans or favorite traditions?
